Using a Blog to Teach Controversial Topics

A MAIS teacher created a really innovative and interesting 8th grade health blog, called a Q & A Forum, using Moodle. The teacher posted various videos about anorexia and obesity to her Moodle Forum and the students were asked to watch the videos online and respond to questions as well as the other students’ responses. The Q & A forum requires students to post their perspectives before viewing other students' postings. After the initial posting, students can view and respond to other students' postings. This feature encourages original and independent thinking. Why not make an online discussion forum for one of your classes?

Foreign Language Podcasts with Word

A MAIS teacher found a great way to assess her foreign language students writing, reading, and speaking skills all in one assignment. Watch the short video linked below to learn more about how to create audio podcasts and combine them with written assignments.

MAIS History & Philosophy

The MAIS Association

The Mediterranean Association of International Schools was formed in 1981 by the joining of the Maghreb Association and the Iberian Council of International Schools. MAIS presently has 25 Member Schools located in Spain, Italy, Portugal, France, Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, and Cyprus . Associate Memberships are available for schools, colleges, businesses and interested individuals and organizations worldwide.

All MAIS Member Schools have an American based curriculum; however, each is influenced by its geographical location, student body and diversity of nationalities in its community.

The MAIS focus is to help its members evaluate and meet the varying educational needs which result from providing an American education in an international setting. MAIS Members and Associates are provided with opportunities to liase with Member Schools through their participation at the Annual MAIS Conference and other MAIS activities throughout the year.

The MAIS Philosophy

The mission of MAIS is to improve the quality of education in Member Schools by promoting the professional development of Faculty, Administrators and School Board Members; effect communication and interchange; and create international understanding. MAIS serves as a liaison between Member Schools, host country schools, Associate Member organizations and other regional, Professional and In-Service Organizations.

COLLABORATION NEWS

Check out this collaborative site where MAIS schools can interact with schools all around the world and develop a space where young writers and voices can
connect with news stories about their communities, their schools and their interests via audiocasting (and podcasting).http://youthradio.wordpress.com/

Suitable for primary students, this blog will provide the space to read and write about the world seen through the eyes of a Teddy Bear.  Students can hang out and communicate with different teddy bears around the world to hear more about their lives and adventures. This will allow our students to see each other’s countries, customs and traditions through the eyes of our “teddy bears” and open their horizons through a more global perspective.

Check out this Digital Citizenship Program where
students can work with other students throughout the world. The Digiteen Global Project is an opportunity for schools and classrooms from around the world to discuss issues, research and take action related to being online in the 21st century. The project also has an educational network where students and teachers connect, interact, share multimedia and reflect on their experiences throughout the project.”http://digiteen2008.wikispaces.com/
